Inspirational Cherokee story – The Fighting Wolves

Fighting Wolves

An old Cherokee is telling his grandson about a fight that is going on inside him. He said it is between two wolves:

1. One is evil, with anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

2. The other is good with joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one I feed.”

Remember Those Who Pack Your Parachute

Who Packed Your Parachute?

Author Unknown

Charles Plumb was a US Navy jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience!

One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table came up and said, “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!”

“How in the world did you know that?” asked Plumb.

“I packed your parachute,” the man replied. Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, “I guess it worked!” Plumb assured him, “It sure did. If your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Plumb couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, “I kept wondering what he had looked like in a Navy uniform: a white hat; a bib in the back; and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said ‘Good morning, how are you?’ or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot and he was just a sailor.” Plumb thought of the many hours the sailor had spent at a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship, carefully weaving the shrouds and folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time the fate of someone he didn’t know.

Now, Plumb asks his audience, “Who’s packing your parachute?” Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day. He also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory – he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason. As you go through this week, this month, this year, recognize people who pack your parachutes.

As You Dream…

Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so you shall become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.”

The Women of V-Day

Because today is the tenth anniversary of V-Day in the U.S, I decided to list a few woman who were victims of the violence that V-day tries to bring awareness to. V-day was born to stop violence against women and girls whether it be for religious, social or political reasons. The women below decided NOT to submit to the violence, but instead chose to fight one more round and came out on top.  Their strength and bravery is phenomenal, and a perfect example to all.

Mai

Mukhtar Mai was a victim of gang rape in Pakistan. She took this tragic and horrible situation, gathered her strength and went to authorities putting her rapists in jail. She received compensation money from the government, which she did not use for herself, but instead opened a rape crisis hotline, and opened up a girls school. Mai has received countless death threats, attacks on her school, her local village, and against her family. She remains vocal, stands strong by her school, and refuses to close it down along with the hotline she opened. Mai was awarded Bravest Woman of the Year in 2005, and praised by the UN, having been honored her for her incredible activism, heroism, and bravery.

Ayyan Hirsi Ali

Ayyan Hirsi Ali is best known for publicly denouncing violence against women in Islam. Fleeing an arranged marriage in Somalia in the ninenties, she sought amnesty in the Netherlands. There she learned Dutch, English, received her BA degree in Political Science, and became a member of Dutch Parliament. She left the Netherlands when Theo Van Gogh, her co producer for the documentary “Submission”, was killed by an extremist for helping her make the movie.  She speaks out today all over the world, and refuses to “submit” to the death threats and multiple attempts on her life by extremists and terrorists that try to silence her.

Aurea

This American woman, Aurea McGarry, has almost survived it all. Aurea has risen above her father’s murder, a physically abusive marriage, her mother’s death of cancer, her brothers treatment of cancer and then finally her OWN battle with cancer.  Despite all of this she has evolved into a successful entrepreneur in direct sales, an ambassador in her local chamber, a sought after motivational speaker, and a director for a childrens’ church for more than thirteen years.

The flower that blooms in adversity is the most beautiful and rare of all.  Author Unknown.

Your Word is Your Wand

The Wise Sage

Author Unknown

There once was a wise sage who wandered the countryside. One day, as he passed near a village, he was approached by a woman who told him of a sick child nearby. She beseeched
him to help this child.

So the sage came to the village, and a crowd gathered around him, for such a man was a rare sight. One woman brought the sick child to him, and he said a prayer over her.

“Do you really think your prayer will help her, when medicine has failed?” yelled a man from the crowd.

“You know nothing of such things! You are a stupid fool!” said the sage to the man.

The man became very angry with these words and his face grew hot and red. He was about to say something, or perhaps strike out, when the sage walked over to him and said: “If one word has such power as to make you so angry and hot, may not another have the power to heal?”

And thus, the sage healed two people that day.

“Language does have the power to change reality. Therefore, treat your words as the mighty instruments they are – to heal, to bring into being, to nurture, to cherish, to bless, to forgive.” – Daphne Rose Kingman

Paul Potts – Motivational Video Story (part 5 of 5)

Do dreams come true?
Dream fulfillment – does it really start with a decision?

Lack of confidence is a dream KILLER!

Bullied as a boy, Paul Potts found his escape in music, in singing. His voice was his best friend.

He “almost” gave up his passion for singing. In debt, after years of illness, he all but abandoned his passion for Opera.

Until he got on Britain’s Got Talent, Paul was in “settle-mode.”

Paul said, “I settled in to being a mobile sales person…”

His mindset was stuck in “I’m-not-good-enough-mode.”

Mr. Potts admitted, “I almost didn’t send the application in…”

Wow! The world would’ve missed out BIG TIME if he listened to the dream-killing-demons of doubt.

What is the world missing out on when you hold back your talents, skills and abilities? What drives you? What kind of difference would your life be like if you “took a chance” and pursued YOUR dreams?

Paul Potts in New York, America, TV Interview NBC – Dreams

From Rags to Riches

  • Paul Potts becomes the winner of “Britain’s Got Talent”
  • Paul Potts wins 100,000 lbs = about $240,000 in US
  • Paul Potts signed a recording deal with Simon (from American Idol).
  • Paul Potts will sing in front of the Queen.
  • To all of those bullies out there…
    Paul says, “Thank You!”

To all those who say, I hope his success doesn’t change Paul Potts, now that he’s won, and made his dreams come true… I say – I hope it DOES!

I hope he “settles in” to his REAL destiny for his life, full of unstoppable confidence, love and respect for himself, and those around him; I hope he reaches ALL his dreams this year: quickly paying off his debts, fulfilling his next dream of finally having a family of his own, and is successfully singing and selling his music to the world for the rest of his life.

Yes – I hope this DOES change Paul Potts, and he loves every single minute of it.

God knows – the world is a much better place now that we all got the chance to meet Paul Potts!

To all you who worry about people staying “humble” (which really means “staying down on yourself”) don’t worry – he’ll always be “Paul Potts”, but he’ll be a more fulfilled Paul Potts because his spirit has now been filled as he is living his true destiny. The world has recognized his talent, and we all benefit as a result of Paul Potts pursuing his dream.

Success eluded this Welshman… lack of confidence almost killed his destiny… until… one day… he “took a chance”, he “made a decision” and most importantly, he “took action!” He submitted his application, and pursued his dream – despite what the voices tried to prevent him from doing. WOW! What a Triumph!

What will YOU do TODAY to pursue YOUR Dreams?

Remember – the world will be a much better place when YOU live YOUR Destiny.

Don’t let ANYONE tell you different – especially that still small voice you hear in your head called FEAR.

Instead – listen to your Coach – and pursue your Destiny every day! Take some type of small action each and every day to make your dreams come true. Because one day, you’ll wake up, and realize you’re living your true purpose – and the world will thank you for it!

To those of you who have bullies in your life (either real or in your head) thank them – because ultimately, they made you a stronger person. Use Paul Potts as a source of inspiration for your dreams.

Get past the negative thinking – the “bullies in your mind” and remember – YOU ARE SOMEBODY!!! You’re __________ __________!!! (Fill in the blanks with your name.)
